On 30 April 2022, a cross-style training course and DAN examination took place at the Schozachtalhalle in Ilsfeld under the motto ‘Shito-ryu meets Goju-ryu’. The seminar, which was attended by participants and DAN examinees from Israel and Portugal, began with an introduction to the kata ‘Ishimine No Bassai’ (meaning ‘breaking through a fortress’), which originates from Shuri-te, given by Shihan Athula Minithanthri. In the next session, Sensei Joachim Wursthorn from Shinbu-Kai Karate-Do taught the participants kobudo techniques from China and partner exercises. After lunch, Hanshi Tokimune Funasako led a session comprising a warm-up programme and Goju-Ryu techniques.

After completing the course, seven participants took on the rigorous challenges of a DAN examination. Emilia Miller and Ali Ege Oflaz passed the DKV Junior DAN examination under the watchful eyes of examiners Hanshi Tokio Funasako, Shihan Athula Minithanthri and Sensei Joachim Wursthorn, while Nils Kern and Dominik DeFrenne passed the DKV 3rd DAN examination. Ghazal and Adeeb Saad from Maghar (Israel) were delighted to have passed their JKDS 5th and 7th DAN examinations respectively at the end of the day. Dhammika’s representative in Portugal, António Gomes Rebelo, was delighted to pass his JKDS 6th Dan, as was Jutta Fojkar, who is responsible for the administration of Dhammika Karate.

We would like to congratulate all examinees on passing their exams!
