The Dhammika Karate-Do family mourns the passing of Demura Fumio Sensei, who was born on 15 September 1938 and died on 24 April 2023, and extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Fumio Demura Sensei passed away on 24 April 2023, aged 84. Not only was he a renowned Japanese karate and kobudo master, he also served as the inspiration for the Mr Miyagi character in The Karate Kid films. Demura himself was the martial arts stunt double for Pat Morita, who played Mr Miyagi in parts 1, 3 and 4 of The Karate Kid.
Demura Fumio Sensei held the rank of 9th dan in Shito-ryu and the title of shihan.
