Successful at the Regio Cup “North” in Eberbach
On 22 June 2020, this year’s Regio Cup “North” took place in the Hohenstaufenhalle in Eberbach near Heidelberg. With Abduallah S. from SC Ilsfeld, the siblings Tom and Mia L. from DKD Kirchheim am Neckar, Luke from the karate department of SVGG Hirschlanden-Schöckingen and Emilian W., Leni B. and Naemi R. (all TSV Löchgau), several karateka from the Dhammika Karate-Do family took part.
In the “Kids, Kata Boys” category, Tom L. took a great third place in a very strong field of competitors. He was beaten in the pool finals by the reigning state champion and came third in the repechage round. His sister Mia, who has only been practising karate for a short time, was unfortunately up against a strong karateka from the 1st Shotokan Club Frankenthal in the U12 female kata category. In the repechage round, she had to face another strong and experienced opponent. Nevertheless she could be satisfied with her performance.
Abduallah Samid started for the DKD Beilstein in the U16, male kata category and with a little bit of bad luck achieved a great third place in his first non-internal tournament. In the first round he lost narrowly to the later finalist with 2:1 and had to go through the repechage round. In the repechage round, he once again put in a great performance and finished in third place.
Luke also competed for DKD Beilstein this time and, like Emilian W. from TSV Löchgau, competed in the U12, male kata category. Both gave their best, won their pool finals and reached the finals. In Dhammika’s own final Luke won against Emilian.
Leni B. and Naemi R. from TSV Löchgau also took part. Like her club teammate, Leni competed in the U14 female kata category. Both performed very well in their chosen katas. However, Leni found herself in a strong, evenly matched pool and was narrowly defeated 1:2 in the first repechage round. Naemi narrowly lost her pool finals after winning the preliminaries. She also had to go through the repechage round. Unfortunately, she lost 2:1 in the last round for 3rd place and finished the competition in 5th place.
Conclusion: The aim of participating in a Regio Cup is to carefully introduce athletes who have not practised karate for so long or have little competition experience to competitive sport and to deal with nervousness. All the children managed this very well and can be proud of their achievements.
Congratulations to all participants!
