DKD athletes successful at the International Dhammika Cup!
On 18 November 2023, the 22nd International Dhammika Cup took place in Beilstein near Heilbronn. Karate tournaments are an opportunity for karatekas to put their skills to the test, compete against worthy opponents and emerge victorious in the end. The recent tournament in Beilstein was no exception. Many athletes from the Japan Karate-Do Dhammika-Ha Shitoryu Kai also took part in this traditional tournament and demonstrated their skills in the disciplines of kata, kumite and kobudo. Best of all, this exciting karate tournament brought great success with a total of 20 medals (4x gold, 4x silver, 9x bronze and 3x 4th place)!
Our karatekas showed their skills in various age and weight categories and impressed with great performances. Emilia Miller from Dhammika Karate-Do Ilsfeld and Linda Sankin from Dhammika Karate-Do Abstatt deserve special mention. Both of them confirmed their great improvement of the last months and impressed with their determination. At the end, they were rightly able to celebrate 2nd and 3rd place in the Kata Single Junior category.
The young Tom L. from the Dhammika Karate-Do Dojo in Kirchheim also showed once again what potential he has. In a strong field of competitors, he was able to achieve a great third place in the Kata Individual category of the Mini-Kids and was also able to celebrate a second place in Kobudo! Emma S. from the same dojo was also able to celebrate a great third place in Kobudo. Little Emma Luisa K. from DKD Abstatt secured third place with a great performance in the Kata category (Kata single girls’ children).
Kiet Nguyen celebrated a surprising comeback right before the start of the competition, taking over the place in the junior/senior kumite team from Joel Bracher – who in turn had to fill the Karate Dojo Stockheim team at short notice. And Kiet thought that if he was going to take part in the team competition, he might as well start in the individual competition. Remarkably, despite a very long break from karate, he was rewarded with bronze in both the individual and in team. Oleg Osijuk from DKD Amorbach once again proved his fighting heart. In a strong and very experienced field of competitors, he not only fought his way to a great third place with Kiet and Philipp Klemm as part of the DKD Beilstein kumite team, but also as individual in the “Men’s kumite – 68, -78 kg” category.
There was also a reason to celebrate for the de Silva family, led by Stefanie de Silva from SVGG Hirschlanden-Schöckingen. With Stefanie’s third place (Ü30 Kata Individual Women), Luke’s first place in kata (Children’s Kata Individual Boys) and third place in kumite (Children’s Kumite Individual Boys) as well as Leon’s first place in Kobudo, they were able to win a total of 4 medals!
